Best moment of the season: Beating who we thought was the best team, Corcoran, and winning the Section III championship because all of our hard work paid off. Your inspiration: My dad inspired me to play basketball because once I fell in love with it he kept supporting me and helped me get better and become the best player I can be. Highlight of your high school career: When the boys and girls C-NS basketball teams both won the Section III championship. FIRST TEAM Coriesha Hickey Corcoran Junior point guard What’s next: I plan on going to college and playing basketball. Season statistics: 14 points per game. Career statistics: 423 total points, including 169 3-pointers. Best moment of the season: Every moment was a great one because just us all being together doing what we loved to do made everything wonderful. Pregame ritual: Zoning out while listening to my Ipod. Your inspiration: The people who inspired me to play was my family and Allen Iverson. I remember watching him play on television and thought he was the best. Highlight of your high school career: When I scored a game-high of 23 points in a big game. Leanne Ockenden Christian Brothers Academy Senior guard What’s next: Playing Division I basketball at Marist College Season statistics: 17 points per game, 8 assists per game, 8 rebounds per game, 4 steals per game. Career statistics: 16.5 points per game, 1,409 total points (school record), 249 3-pointers, 62.3 percent 3-point shooting per season (school record). Best moment of the season: Beating Cortland at CBA because it was our Senior Night and we lost to them our first time this year. We all played so well. Pregame ritual: Michele Damico, Marisa Romeo and I do a secret ritual in the locker room before every game. Highlight of your high school career: Winning a sectional championship in 9th grade. Courtney Tennant Cortland Senior forward What’s next: The only thing I know right now is that wherever I go, I will be playing basketball. Season statistics: 18.2 points per game, 10.4 rebounds per game. Best moment of the season: Winning the sectional championship, because we made it our goal at the beginning of the season to be the best team we could be. We believed in ourselves when not many outside people did. Pregame ritual: I have to have my sister, Devon, iron my hair in the morning, but not with a straightener, a clothing iron. In the car on the way to every game, Devon and I blast “Party in the U.S.A.” While the national anthem is playing I recite a quote in my head from One Tree Hill about stepping up. Your inspiration: I didn’t fall in love with the game until my freshman year. Now, basketball is my life. I started playing because I was tall. But as I went through the program and AAU, my mom became my role model. She taught me I could do anything I wanted as long as I put my whole self into it. Highlight of your high school career: After being knocked out in the quarters as a freshman, then in the semifinals two years in a row, making it to the finals and winning a sectional championship. It made everything worth it: the pain, the stress, the hours on and off the court, the emotional roller coaster I have been on over the last four years everything came to storybook ending. Emily Trapani Fayetteville-Manlius Senior forward What’s next: I will be playing for Pace University in the Northeast-10 Conference. Season statistics: 17.7 points per game, 11.3 rebounds per game, 4 blocks per game, 3 assists per game, 2 steals per game. Career statistics: 1,199 total points; 865 rebounds. Best moment of the season: Winning the Jamesville-DeWitt Tip-Off Tournament for the first time in my high school career by beating Oswego and J-D, and receiving the Tournament Outstanding Player award. Pregame ritual: Before games, I take a quick nap, buy a 6-inch Italian BMT sub, and listen to music in order to block out any distractions. My team always dances in the locker room to warm up before we go on the court. Your inspiration: My inspiration came from my family, which has a strong basketball tradition at the high school, college, and pro levels. My role models are my father, two uncles, and my first cousin, Joe Trapani, the leading scorer and rebounder for Boston College. Highlight of your high school career: Upsetting Corcoran for the second time during my junior year in the sectional semifinal round, thus qualifying us for the Class AA finals for the first time in my high school career. Nikki Works Nottingham Senior forward What’s next:: Temple University Season statistics: 16.5 points per game, 11 rebounds per game. Career statistics: 1,050 total points Best moment of the season: Being nominated for the McDonald’s All-American Game because I would have never thought years ago watching Candace Parker, Maya Moore and Greg Paulus playing, that I would ever be considered for something of that altitude. It was a huge accomplishment and reward for just being recognized for all the sacrifices and hard work I’ve put in for a long time. Pregame ritual: Listen to my “on the go” play list on my touch, eat a salad from burger king, use the bathroom twice. Wait for everyone to leave out of the locker room. Davetta and I are the last ones out. We discuss our roles in the game, then our handshake. Jump on the bench, hit the ceiling, smack the go hard or go home sign and a spin move. Your inspiration: My parents inspired me to play because they put in the same time, commitment and dedication for something that I wanted. They were my No. 1 supporters whether I scored 40 or 0 and never let me quit when it got hard. My role model since I was 14 was Ben Wallace because of his work ethic, though he’s not mentioned like Kobe Bryant and Lebron James, he does all the little things that distinguish good teams from great teams. Highlight of your high school career: When we lost to Cortland because we, as a team, had been through more than anyone can imagine. We finally came together and played our hearts out as a team, not just individually. Though it wasn’t the intended outcome
